Verdict at a glance

Recommended for

Clio Manage firms and litigators who need multistate or international research plus docket alerts in one place.

Bottom line

If you want research AI that can sit on Clio matters—or stand alone with uploads—ask for a monthly trial quote; if you mostly draft transactional docs and rarely research, the value case is weaker.

Clio Work (Vincent AI) pairs matter-aware AI with a large research library and docket alerts. Pricing is quote-only. Clio Manage is optional; bundles add discount and migration. Cancellation takes effect at end of term.

Not for

Transactional practices where research is secondary, or buyers who need a published per-seat price before a call.

Pricing from

Quote-only per user via trial or demo (clio.com/work/pricing, 2026-10-15)

Pros

  • Matter-grounded research with linked passages; works standalone or with Clio Manage
  • Clio Library: large multi-country corpus; Cert citator with confidence scores, per Clio
  • Clio Docket alerts across federal and major state courts plus agency tribunals
  • Signature Work / Elite Work bundles discount and include data migration, per Clio

Cons

  • No published per-user price
  • Cancel anytime means end of current monthly or annual term; mid-term cancel leaves the balance due (Clio terms)
  • AI fees may begin at activation
  • Drafting quality draws mixed reactions for complex documents

Quick answer

Vincent AI was vLex's research assistant. After Clio's acquisition of vLex, the product sold today is Clio Work. It researches and reasons over uploaded documents or Clio Manage matters, drafts first-pass work product, searches a large multi-country library, and watches dockets. You can buy Work without Clio Manage. Pricing is per user and not published. Clio advertises no long-term commitment; cancellation still takes effect at the end of the current term, and cancelling mid-term leaves the rest of the term due. Test monthly first.

What is Clio Work (Vincent AI)?#

Clio Work is an AI legal assistant for research, document analysis, and light drafting. Point it at a PDF upload or a Clio Manage matter; it returns answers with linked passages. It also taps Clio Library (Clio says over a billion legal documents from 100+ countries, with historical statute versions) and Clio Docket (real-time docket search and alerts, including federal courts and agencies such as PTAB, TTAB, ITC, and NLRB). Citations go through Cert, Clio's citator, with a confidence score on authorities.

Security pitch: zero-data-retention agreements with third-party AI providers, firm data not used for training, SOC 2 Type II, per Clio.

Clio Work by published claims

Main features#

Matter-based research and analysis#

Ask questions over a matter or upload. Clio Work surfaces claims, obligations, facts, and risks from contracts, pleadings, depositions, transcripts, and recordings, each with citations, per Clio.

First-pass drafts#

Summaries, timelines, client updates, and argument outlines. Users often like the research grounding more than deep transactional drafting; treat drafts as a start, not a filing.

Clio Library and Cert#

Large multi-jurisdiction corpus with historical versions of statutes and regulations. Cert checks citations; authorities show confidence scores. You can select or deselect sources.

Clio Docket#

Docket alerts and search across a large filing set, including agency tribunals. Useful if your current workflow is manual PACER refreshing.

Pricing and contracts#

Not published. Per-user pricing via free trial or demo. Sold standalone or connected to Manage.

Bundles: Signature Work (Manage + Work) and Elite Work (adds Grow). Clio says these save "over 10%" and "over 18%" versus buying separately. Data migration is included only in those bundles. Live 24/5 support and training are on every plan, per Clio.

Cancel language, both sides: Clio advertises no long-term commitment. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current monthly or annual term. Under Clio's terms, cancelling mid-term makes the rest of the term due. AI services may carry fees communicated at activation. Start on monthly billing while you test value.

Historical list prices floating online from before the quote-only shift are unverified; we don't repeat them. Get your per-user quote in writing, and ask whether every user in the firm must take Work.

Setup#

Low for standalone uploads. Moderate if you connect Clio Manage and build matter workflows. Expect a learning curve for whoever champions it. Support and training are included; use them in week one on a multistate question and an administrative-law question—the two spots older independent reviews flagged as weaker.

What users say#

Summarized sentiment only.

Likes: Grounded research with citations; cross-jurisdiction work and source control; strong support and training.

Frustrations: Drafting can feel shallow or repetitive; overlap with a general AI team plan; nuanced multistate or admin-law questions can go generic; weak value for low-research practices.

Clio Work is strongest when the answer needs a citation trail into your matter or a foreign statute, not when you only need a clever first draft.

Pros and cons#

Pros

  • Matter-aware AI with optional Manage sync
  • Large library + citator confidence scores
  • Docket coverage including agency tribunals
  • Bundle discounts and migration on Signature/Elite Work

Cons

  • Quote-only pricing
  • End-of-term cancel; mid-term balance still due
  • AI fees may start at activation
  • Drafting feedback is mixed on complex documents

Compare with CoCounsel and Lexis Protégé#

All three are research-heavy AI assistants. CoCounsel sits in the Thomson Reuters / Westlaw world; Protégé in Lexis+. Clio Work is the Clio/vLex path, with optional practice-management grounding.

Ask your bar association whether older Fastcase/vLex member benefits now map to any Clio Work features. That's a question for your bar, not a verified fact.

Who should use it?#

FAQ#

Do I need Clio Manage?#

No. Standalone works with uploads. Bundles add discount and migration.

How much does it cost?#

Not published. Per-user quote via trial or demo (checked 2026-10-15).

Can I cancel anytime?#

Takes effect at end of the current term. Mid-term cancel leaves the balance due under Clio's terms.

Is Vincent AI still a separate product?#

Clio markets the capability as Clio Work; Vincent is the assistant name inside that product.

Is any of this sponsored?#

No.
