What does TalkingParents actually do?#
- Secure messaging: messages show when they were sent and viewed, and can't be edited or deleted.
- Accountable Calling: phone and video calls without sharing your number, recorded, transcribed, and downloadable.
- Shared calendar: only the person who created an event can edit it, and all activity is timestamped.
- Accountable Payments: request and send child-related payments, with a per-payment fee by plan.
- Info library and Vault: the Vault is private to you, and you can share files with your lawyer or mediator.
- Journal: private notes, up to five attachments each.
- Records: certified PDF or printed records of your activity.

Lighter rows are the same for every product; the rest are where they differ.
What this means for you: Essentials is enough for a calm co-parenting relationship that just needs structure. If there's any chance records will be needed in a hearing or mediation, Enhanced is the practical starting point, because that's where unlimited PDF records appear. Ultimate makes sense for heavy calling or frequent shared-expense payments, where the lower fee adds up, and its writing tools can help keep messages civil.
Each parent chooses and pays for their own plan, so one can be on Essentials while the other is on Ultimate.
What should lawyers and clients know?#
- There's no free tier now. Court forms or older guidance that describe TalkingParents as having a free option predate the March 30, 2026 change. Mention the hardship and domestic violence fee waivers to clients who need them.
- Journal entries are different. Private journal entries can be deleted and aren't part of the unalterable record, so it doesn't carry the integrity of the message record. For incidents that matter, record them in messages or keep separate dated notes as well.
- Subscriptions are managed where they were bought. If a client subscribed through an app store, support can't change it; the client manages it in that store.
How hard is TalkingParents to set up?#
Low. Each parent creates an account and links to the other. The setup work is agreeing on what goes through the app (all scheduling, all expense requests) so the record is complete.
What do users say about TalkingParents?#
We didn't find enough independent user feedback to summarize, and we don't repeat vendor testimonials. If you're recommending it to a client, have them try the messaging and calendar on Essentials for a month before upgrading.
