Verdict at a glance

Recommended for

Solos and small firms that want a low published price, strong billing and payments, and month-to-month flexibility.

Bottom line

Budget Business at $89/user/mo billed annually for most client-facing firms; run the 7-day trial, get payment rates in writing, and calendar written notice at least 5 days before renewal.

Quick answer

Bottom line: PracticePanther is the low published-price pick for solos and small firms that want strong billing and payments without AI. Budget Business at $89 per user per month billed annually for most client-facing work, use the 7-day trial (no card), and calendar written notice at least 5 days before renewal — miss it and you've paid for another term with no refund.

PracticePanther is cloud practice management built around time tracking, billing, payments, and trust. Four plans run $49 to $114 per user per month billed annually ($59 to $124 monthly). Full trust and operating accounting (PantherAccounting Plus) is only on Business Pro. There's no native AI; partner tools add it at extra cost if you want it. Either side can end the subscription, and you can cut seats for the next term, with written notice at least 5 days before the term ends; all charges are non-refundable.

We built this review from PracticePanther's pricing page, terms of service, and help center, plus our overall reading of public user feedback. Prices are vendor claims checked October 15, 2026. Confirm with PracticePanther before you buy.

What does PracticePanther actually do?#

  • Matters and contacts, a daily agenda email, internal chat, mobile apps, and unlimited storage.
  • Time and billing: time and expense tracking, hourly and contingency invoicing, batch billing, recurring payment plans, automated payment reminders, and UTBMS/LEDES (the coded formats insurers and corporate clients often require).
  • Payments through PantherPayments, PracticePanther's own processor.
  • Trust: a trust ledger and reconciliation, plus check printing.
  • Automation: document templates, task and event workflows, intake forms, and calendar rules.
  • Integrations: QuickBooks Online, Dropbox, Box, Mailchimp, email and calendar sync, Zapier, and an API.

PantherAccounting Plus, on Business Pro, adds full trust and operating accounting: a general ledger, receivables, expense management, and enhanced reconciliation. For some firms that replaces QuickBooks.

There's no native AI. We found no built-in AI features on its pricing page (checked October 15, 2026). Partner tools can add call notes and time capture; those are priced separately. Confirm current AI partner options with PracticePanther.

What this means for you: You can budget to the dollar before talking to sales. You can leave (or cut seats) on short notice — but only if the notice is written and lands at least 5 days before the term ends.

Source: practicepanther.com/pricingPracticePanther pricing page, checked 2026-10-15. Prices per user per month. Annual billing saves $120 per user per year.

What this means for you: If clients text you, sign things electronically, or fill out intake forms, start at Business ($89 annual / $99 monthly). Solo is a real plan for a lawyer who mostly bills; it isn't the plan most client-facing firms stay on.

Accounting is a Business Pro decision#

Every tier has a trust ledger and reconciliation. Full trust and operating accounting only comes with Business Pro. On lower tiers you'll keep QuickBooks (or your bookkeeper's system) for the operating books. The difference between Business and Business Pro is $25 per user per month billed annually, so compare that with what you pay for bookkeeping software today.

PantherPayments processing rates aren't on the pricing page. Get them in writing before you compare PracticePanther's total cost with anyone else's.

What are PracticePanther's cancellation terms?#

The trap: written notice at least 5 days before the term ends. Miss that window and you've bought another term.

  • PracticePanther's terms say either side can end the subscription, and you can reduce users for the next term, with written notice at least 5 days before the term ends.
  • All charges are final and non-refundable, whether you pay monthly or annually.

On monthly billing you're never more than about a month from an exit — friendlier than most annual-only deals — but 5 days is easy to miss. An email to your rep may not count as the notice the terms describe; follow the process in the terms, and confirm with PracticePanther how they want notice delivered.

Getting your data out#

PracticePanther's help center indicates data can be exported to Excel and isn't deleted when you cancel, and we found no export fee in the terms. Confirm with PracticePanther how long data stays available after cancellation, and export before you leave.

How hard is PracticePanther to set up?#

Low to moderate. PracticePanther assigns a dedicated account manager for onboarding and migration. Live training: one session on Solo, three on Essential, unlimited from Business.

If you're switching from another practice management system, plan on rebuilding templates and workflows and reconciling trust balances at cutover.

What do users say about PracticePanther?#

We read public user feedback and looked for patterns.

What users like. Price first. Users also describe the interface as easy, billing and timekeeping as solid, support as responsive, and onboarding as smooth.

What frustrates them. Thinner integrations, reporting, and document management than the larger suites; a limited client portal; no native AI; and a weaker fit as firms grow.

Pros and cons#

Pros

  • Every price published, with a low entry point ($49 annual Solo).
  • Strong time, billing, and payments.
  • Unlimited e-signature and two-way texting from Business.
  • Native trust and operating accounting on Business Pro.
  • Month-to-month option with a short exit — if you hit the 5-day written-notice window.

Cons

  • No native AI.
  • Full accounting only on Business Pro.
  • Written notice at least 5 days before term end to cancel or cut seats; charges non-refundable.
  • Thinner integrations, reporting, and document tools than larger suites, per users.

How does PracticePanther compare with Clio, MyCase, and Smokeball?#

Clio includes full accounting on every plan and has the largest integration marketplace, but publishes only its entry price. MyCase publishes every price too and includes AI from Pro, with accounting as a $39-per-user add-on. Smokeball is quote-only, strong on automatic time capture and document automation, with stricter contract terms. PracticePanther's pitch is simplicity: known prices, solid billing, and no AI bill.
