MyCase Review (2026): Published Prices, 8am IQ AI, and What to Test First

MyCase publishes every price, includes AI from the middle tier up, and sets up faster than most. The two things to check before you commit are the real cost with Accounting and whether document automation works on your templates.

Quick answer

Bottom line: MyCase belongs on the shortlist if you want a published price and a fast setup. Budget Pro with Accounting at $139 per user per month (billed annually), and use the 10-day trial to test document automation and Drive on your own files, because fees you pay aren't refundable.

MyCase is cloud practice management from 8am, the company behind LawPay. It handles cases, contacts, calendars, documents, time, billing, trust ledgers, payments, and a client portal. Plans run $50, $100, and $130 per user per month billed annually ($60, $120, $150 monthly). AI (called 8am IQ) comes with Pro and Advanced. Full firm accounting is a $39-per-user add-on on Pro and Advanced only, which makes Pro with Accounting $139 per user per month billed annually. MyCase says there's no long-term contract, but 8am's terms say subscriptions auto-renew for the period you chose, and fees you've paid aren't refundable.

What does MyCase actually do?#

The everyday core is on every plan: case and contact management, tasks, a shared calendar that tracks statute-of-limitations deadlines, time and expense tracking, invoicing (batch billing, payment plans, interest, LEDES, and subscription billing), unlimited document storage, and trust ledgers kept by client and by case. That makes a trust audit easier.

Payments run through LawPay, built in, with what MyCase calls next-day deposits and a pay-later financing option. MyCase lists the monthly fee for LawPay inside MyCase as $0; processing rates aren't on the pricing page, so ask.

Pro adds unlimited e-signature, document generation, workflows, intake forms and a legal CRM (a lead and relationship tracker), two-way texting with images, chat, a call log, and 70+ integrations.

Advanced adds Advanced Document Automation, Desktop Drive (two-way sync between your computer and MyCase), conflict check tracking, split billing, and the Open API, which lets developers or tools like Zapier connect MyCase to other software.

What does 8am IQ AI do, and which plan has it?#

8am IQ is MyCase's built-in AI, split across two tiers:

  • Pro: a Writing Assistant (tone, clarity, translation) and a Document Assistant that extracts and summarizes information from documents.
  • Advanced: a Case Assistant that analyzes a case and summarizes status and key items with citations back to the source documents, and a Discovery Assistant that runs OCR (optical character recognition, which turns scans, photos, and handwriting into searchable text).

Discovery Assistant includes 5,000 pages per user per month, pooled across the firm. An extra 5,000 pages for the firm costs $30, and those pages expire at the end of your subscription period. 8am also offers an official connector that lets the Claude AI assistant work with MyCase data.

Basic has no 8am IQ features. If AI is part of why you're buying, Basic isn't your plan.

What this means for you: Most firms that want intake, texting, and AI land on Pro. If you automate heavily or need split billing, price Advanced from the start, because those features don't exist below it.

The Accounting add-on changes the math#

MyCase includes trust ledgers on every plan, but full firm accounting, including three-way trust reconciliation (matching your bank statement, your trust ledger, and each client's ledger), is MyCase Accounting, sold separately at $39 per user per month on Pro and Advanced only.

Source: mycase.com/pricingOur arithmetic from MyCase's published prices, checked 2026-10-15. Accounting isn't available on Basic.

What this means for you: For a five-person firm on Pro with Accounting, that's $695 a month billed annually, not $500. Court-rules calendaring is a separate subscription too, and its price isn't on the pricing page.

What are MyCase's contract and refund terms?#

MyCase says there's no long-term contract and no setup fee, and you can pay monthly. But "no contract" doesn't mean "no commitment": 8am's terms of service say subscriptions auto-renew, monthly or annually depending on what you picked, and anything you've paid for the current period stays paid. In practice, if you choose annual billing and want to leave, you're paying for the year. Cancel before the renewal date, and ask 8am how to give notice.

  • Fees already paid are non-refundable. That includes dropping users or downgrading mid-period: no refund for the rest of it.
  • The annual discount is $120 per user per year on Basic and $240 on Pro and Advanced.
  • Extra OCR pages expire at the end of the subscription period.

Getting your data out#

MyCase's help center describes a Full Data Backup: a ZIP of CSV files you can generate once a day. It doesn't include documents or invoices; you download those separately. MyCase's help center also indicates read-only access lasts about 30 days after cancellation. We couldn't confirm that fully, so ask 8am before you rely on it, and do your export before you cancel. Several users keep a parallel copy of documents in Google Drive or OneDrive, which is cheap insurance.

How hard is MyCase to set up?#

Low to moderate effort. Users often describe MyCase as easier to configure out of the box than Clio, and a new assistant can get productive quickly. MyCase includes guided implementation, training, and data migration at no extra charge. 8am decides the scope of the migration, so ask exactly what will and won't come across.

Allow extra time if you depend on advanced document templates or on API and Zapier automations.

What do users say about MyCase?#

We read public user feedback and looked for patterns.

What users like. The interface is intuitive and the product feels all-in-one. Invoicing is straightforward for simple matters, and clients like the portal. High-volume consumer practices praise the intake forms, leads tracking, and AI document summaries. Many users find it cheaper than Clio for comparable seats.

What frustrates them. Document automation is reported as unreliable, repeatedly. Some users report Drive instability. The mobile app gets weak marks, and frequent changes to the home screen and interface annoy people. Reporting and customization are limited, batch and split billing can be painful, and QuickBooks sync is complicated. Some users say features they relied on were moved to the Advanced tier. Support quality is uneven, and a few users complain about being refused refunds even after problems were acknowledged.

How does MyCase compare with Clio, PracticePanther, and Smokeball?#

Clio includes full accounting on every plan but publishes only its entry price, and its integration marketplace is bigger. PracticePanther publishes prices, keeps things simple, and has no native AI. Smokeball is quote-only and wins on automatic time capture, with stricter contract terms. MyCase's advantage is a fully public price list with AI included.
