LexCheck Review (2026): Playbook Redlining in Word, With Terms That Protect the Buyer

LexCheck reviews contracts inside Word against a playbook built from your own template, explains each flag, and redlines in your preferred language. Pricing is by demo. Its terms are among the most buyer-friendly we've read: renewal increases capped at 2%, real uptime credits, and US-only data.

Verdict at a glance

Recommended for

In-house teams and firms reviewing many NDAs, MSAs, and vendor agreements against a consistent playbook.

Bottom line

Ask for a quote scoped to your recurring contract types, size it conservatively since fees can't drop mid-term, and get any negotiated changes into a signed amendment.

A strong fit for teams reviewing high volumes of a few recurring contract types against a stable playbook. Pricing is quote-only and fees can't come down mid-term, so size the order conservatively and lean on the renewal cap and SLA protections already in its terms.

Not for

Firms reviewing many one-off contract types, solos wanting a self-serve monthly tool, and litigators.

Quick answer

Bottom line: LexCheck is for in-house teams and firms that review high volumes of a few recurring contract types (NDAs, MSAs, vendor agreements) against a stable playbook. Pricing is quote only, after a demo and a credit check, and no free trial is advertised, so ask for a pilot on your own contracts. The trap: fees can't be reduced mid-term and aren't refundable, and the subscription auto-renews yearly unless you give 30 days' written notice.

What it does: inside Microsoft Word, you upload a template, it builds a playbook of your preferred positions, and then it flags risky language in incoming contracts, explains why, and redlines in your preferred wording.

The terms are otherwise unusually buyer-friendly. Renewal increases are capped at the lesser of 2% or LexCheck's list-price increase, there's a 99.9% uptime commitment with service credits and a right to leave after three bad months, and your data stays in the US.

  14. How we reviewed

We built this review from LexCheck's website and its terms of service (last updated January 13, 2025). Terms are vendor claims checked October 15, 2026. Confirm with LexCheck before you buy.

What does LexCheck actually do?#

  • Flags and explains: it marks potentially problematic language in a contract and tells you why, rather than just changing it.
  • Redlines in your words: it applies your preferred or fallback language as tracked changes.
  • Playbooks from templates: upload your standard agreement and LexCheck captures your positions; you can update playbooks and fallbacks yourself.
  • Works in Word, where contract review already happens.

The explanations matter more than they sound. A junior lawyer or contract manager who sees why a clause was flagged learns the playbook; one who just accepts redlines doesn't. LexCheck also publishes speed and cost-savings figures on its site; those are its own claims, so measure your own turnaround in a pilot.

LexCheck terms by the numbers

How is LexCheck priced?#

LexCheck doesn't publish prices; you book a demo and get a quote. Its terms add one wrinkle: LexCheck runs a credit check before starting a subscription.

What this means for you: Go into the demo with a list of the contract types you review most and roughly how many of each you see a month. Confirm with LexCheck how the price is calculated (by playbook, by user, or by volume) so you know what grows your bill as you add contract types.

What are LexCheck's contract terms?#

Most software terms are written for the vendor. LexCheck's give the buyer real protections.

  • Renewal cap. Each renewal can rise by no more than the lesser of 2% of the prior year's subscription charges or LexCheck's own list-price increase, and LexCheck must send renewal pricing within 90 days of expiry.
  • Auto-renewal. One-year terms renew unless you give at least 30 days' written notice.
  • No mid-term reductions, no refunds. Fees can't be decreased during an order term and are non-cancelable. Size conservatively; you can add later.
  • Uptime with teeth. LexCheck commits to 99.9% monthly availability. Miss it, and you can earn a credit of half a month's fees, if you report it and ask in writing within 30 days. Three failing months in a row let you terminate.
  • US data residency. Data is hosted in the US. LexCheck must give 90 days' notice before moving processing abroad; if it moves to a jurisdiction you haven't approved, you can terminate with a pro-rata refund.
  • Extended outages. A force-majeure outage longer than five straight days, or ten days in a year, lets you terminate with a pro-rata refund and part of your implementation fees back.
  • Your name. LexCheck can't use your name in marketing without written consent, which you can withdraw.

How hard is LexCheck to set up?#

Low to moderate. Upload your templates to build playbooks, then spend time tuning fallback positions on real incoming contracts. Implementation services can be scoped in a statement of work. Start with your highest-volume contract type and get it right before adding others.

What do users say about LexCheck?#

We didn't find enough public user feedback to summarize. Ask LexCheck for references in an organization like yours, and run a pilot on a month of real contracts.

Pros and cons#

Pros

  • Explains every flag, then redlines in your language.
  • Playbooks from your own templates.
  • 2% renewal cap and a real uptime commitment.
  • US data residency with an exit right if that changes.

Cons

  • No published pricing.
  • No mid-term fee reductions or refunds.
  • Yearly auto-renewal with 30 days' notice.
  • Credit check before you start.

How does LexCheck compare with Spellbook, Ironclad, and Luminance?#

Spellbook is also a Word add-in for drafting and review, aimed broadly at transactional lawyers. Ironclad is a full contract lifecycle platform for in-house teams, with workflows and a repository. Luminance is an enterprise AI contract platform. LexCheck is the focused playbook reviewer, and its contract is friendlier than most.
