What does Law Ruler actually do?#
Law Ruler covers the stretch from first call to signed client, with light case management after that.
- Intake: custom forms with file requests, one-click e-signature, and document automation for Word, PDF, and Excel templates.
- Phones and messaging: a softphone inside the CRM, voice-calling and SMS campaigns, text and video messaging.
- Marketing: email drip campaigns, referral tracking, and marketing dashboards that show which sources produce signed cases.
- Scheduling: appointment management.
- An open API on every tier, plus optional Time and Billing with payments at extra cost.
The softphone is the distinctive piece. Most intake CRMs hand calling off to a separate phone system; Law Ruler keeps call, text, and record in one screen, which suits call-center style intake teams.

Which Law Ruler tier do you need?#
Law Ruler tiers
| Feature | Pro | Premium | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | quote | quote | quote |
| Users included | up to 3 | up to 3 | larger teams |
| Contacts | 10,000 | 15,000 | Not stated |
| Automations | 3 | 100 | unlimited |
| plain text only | HTML email builder | Yes | |
| Email campaigns, marketing-source reporting | No | Yes | Yes |
| Advanced dashboards and reports | No | Yes | Yes |
| Data migration | self-serve | self-serve | guided |
| Live onboarding training, dedicated account manager | No | No | Yes |
| Support (help center; phone and email weekdays 9 to 5 Eastern) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Lighter rows are the same for every product; the rest are where they differ.
What this means for you: Three automations is about one welcome sequence, one no-show follow-up, and one reminder. An intake CRM earns its keep by automating dozens of these, so ask for a Premium quote and treat Pro as a stepping stone at most. Enterprise is for larger teams that want migration and training done for them. Enterprise may carry a user minimum; confirm with Law Ruler.
What are Law Ruler's contract terms?#
Law Ruler's terms of use and software licensing agreement set out the deal:
- A 12-month initial term that automatically extends for further 12-month terms.
- Either side can terminate after the first 12 months on 30 days' notice. Read next to the automatic extensions, it's unclear whether that notice can end a renewal term partway through. Ask Law Ruler to spell it out in your order form.
- No refunds of prepaid fees, and none for early cancellation.
- New users must be reported within 7 days, and your order form is treated as amended to include them.
- Late payments accrue interest at 1.5% a month or the maximum the law allows, whichever is greater. Most contracts say "lesser," so that word is worth raising.
- Arbitration with a waiver of jury trials and class actions.
- Texting only to recipients who opted in; Law Ruler can block numbers or suspend accounts after complaints.
Getting your data out#
The in-app export tool is free and available anytime. A complete export done by Law Ruler costs $250, delivered within 10 business days of a written request. Run your own export before you send notice of non-renewal, and keep it.
How hard is Law Ruler to set up?#
Moderate. Every tier has an onboarding fee, and migration is self-serve on Pro and Premium, so someone on your team will be mapping fields and rebuilding forms. Law Ruler's certified consultants offer turnkey implementation at extra cost. Ask what the onboarding fee includes before comparing quotes.
What do users say about Law Ruler?#
Users generally praise Law Ruler's ease of use, automations, texting, support, and intake workflows. Common complaints are a dated interface, slow form building, limited integrations, and a learning curve. Ask for a sandbox and have your intake lead build one real form and one automation in it before you sign.
Pros and cons#
Pros
- Softphone and voice campaigns built into the CRM.
- Intake forms with e-signature and document automation.
- Open API on every tier.
- Free self-serve export anytime.
Cons
- No published prices, plus an onboarding fee.
- Pro's three-automation cap and plain-text email.
- Auto-extending 12-month terms, no refunds.
- $250 for a full vendor-run export.
How does Law Ruler compare with Lawmatics, Lead Docket, and Hona?#
Lawmatics is the closest rival: quote-only plans, a three-user minimum, stronger marketing automation, and a usage-priced AI add-on, but no built-in softphone. Lead Docket targets the same high-volume intake teams. Hona isn't intake at all; it keeps personal injury clients engaged after they sign. Choose Law Ruler if your intake runs on calls.
