Data dictionary
Every record in tools.json and tools.csv has the 13 fields below. In the CSV, categories is pipe-separated (|).
License: CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Attribution: credit AI Tools For Law and link to https://aitoolsforlaw.ai. Tool names and trademarks belong to their owners. The CSV also carries this in a trailing license column.

name | string | Tool name as listed. |
url | string (URL) | Vendor homepage. |
categories | array of strings | Use-case slugs; the first is the primary category. Main-site page: /category/{slug}/. |
description | string | Factual one-liner based on the vendor’s own website. |
bestFor | string | Editorial verdict: who the tool is best for. |
watchOutFor | string | Editorial verdict: caveats to check. |
featured | boolean | Featured placement. Defaults to false when absent. |
sponsored | boolean | Paid placement. Always true for any paid listing; shown as “Sponsored”. Defaults to false. |
verified | date (YYYY-MM-DD) | Date the homepage was last checked. Defaults to 2026-10-14. |
verifyNote | string (optional) | Caveat about how the listing was verified. |
testStatus | string | Derived: “Initial take, not yet hands-on tested” for all current listings. |
directoryUrl | string (URL) | Derived: the tool’s page on aitoolsforlaw.ai. |
